A Sappho poem

I loved in college
has been stumbling
through the corridors
of my brain.

Luckily, My mother
throws nothing out-
so the slight orange book
was there,
waiting,
calling for me
from a quiet distant shelf.

Here it is:

Some say an army of horsemen,
some of footsoldiers, some of ships,
is the fairest thing on the black earth,
but I say it is what one loves.
